East Bay Grip Co. was founded with a simple purpose: to give young filmmakers and freelancers access to high-quality grip and lighting gear without the hassle or high costs of traditional rental houses. Built from the ground up for the run-and-gun filmmaker trying to forge a career in the Bay Area, we understand the hustle and the need for flexible, affordable solutions. While we proudly support solo creatives and small crews, our doors are open to productions of all sizes. Whether you're shooting a short film on a shoestring budget or producing a full-scale commercial, East Bay Grip Co. is here to provide the tools, reliability, and support you need to get the job done right.
Meet The Owner
Nathaniel Kohfield is a seasoned creative professional with over 17 years in the production industry. He began his career as a cinematographer, working on large-scale commercial shoots and partnering with hundreds of corporate clients across a wide range of industries. Eight years ago, Nathaniel helped launch the ecommerce brand Resident, where he played a pivotal role in building out its creative department and shaping its direction. Today, he leads as Head of Creative Studio at Ashley Furniture, bringing a deep, well-rounded expertise in growth marketing and eCommerce brand strategy. In addition to his full-time role, Nathaniel serves as a fractional CMO for a waterfowl hunting company and sits on multiple nonprofit boards, where he contributes his leadership and insight to community-driven initiatives. Passionate about supporting the next generation of creatives, especially in the Bay Area, he is committed to launching businesses that remove barriers for young filmmakers and freelancers. Outside of work, Nathaniel is an avid waterfowl hunter and bass fisherman, deeply connected to the outdoors and the sporting community.
THe Studio
East Bay Grip Co. also features a spacious 15,000 square-foot production facility available for rent. The studio includes large, custom-built sets designed to accommodate a wide range of production needs—from commercial shoots to indie films. While the space is open for rental, it operates as an active working studio and is frequently in use. For availability, rates, and booking details, please inquire below.

The studio features approximately 11,000 square feet of production space and includes three custom-designed sets, each meticulously created in Cinema 4D to meet the lighting and spatial standards of professional Hollywood cinematographers. The facility is equipped with 400-amp power and multiple generators, providing ample support for even the most demanding lighting setups. With 28-foot vaulted ceilings, this studio offers a rare and versatile production environment in the East Bay.
